For another year, Global Games Jam has ended, and what a time was had at Stafford Campus during the event. After 48 hours of work we were able to pull off most of what we had hoped and it’s time for me to give you my report. I will explain what happened, what problems were faced and what we produced.
Hey everyone! Just thought I’d like to give a shoutout to all those who have been supporting me and following me on all my channels, you have no idea how much it all means to me. This also includes those who write about my stuff or make videos, I’m really thankful for the amount of effort some of you people have in showing your interest of my work.
Here’s one recent example that I’d like to show you, Gerry from MyGamesAreFun did a lets play of the first demo I did of Secret of Escape!
Don’t forget that if you want to do any writeups or videos of my games, feel free to do so and send them my way. Now onto the main part of this post, the Global Games Jam! Continue reading →
Hope everyone had an awesome christmas and a happy new year! Just thought I’d do a late announcement on my involvement in the last weekend jam for GameJolt this year. I’ll be working on a game in HaxeFlixel, and see what happens. I’m also going to be Livestreaming it through Twitch, so go and watch me here!
Judging for Ludum Dare 27 officially ended at almost midnight last night. As such I figured it would be best to finally give my post-mortem, show my score and reveal my favourite games from this Ludum Dare all in one post!
Hey everyone! Great news, my entry for Ludum Dare 27 is online!
10 Second Paper Flight is a toss game, your aim is to make a paper aeroplane fly for 10 seconds, however it isn’t easy with the wind being powerful, and the things that parks get in the way!
I built the game in Actionscript 3 using Adam Atomic’s Flixel Framework, with artwork in Photoshop, Music using Bu-Autotracker and SoundEffects using Bfxr. Considering it’s my first original game programmed in Flixel (no going through tutorials or dabbling about like I have done in Flixel for the last month), it’s impressive I was able to pull this off in 48 hours, with artwork AND sound done by me as well.
So it’s been a few weeks, so I figured I’d show you some of my favourite games from the passing GBJam. Of course there are many brilliant submissions (including the one I was involved with :P), but here are just some of the great ones that appeared.
Yep, over 6 hours ago, the deadline passed. and Alex Earley posted up the current version of our game Star Runner! The game is in alpha stages, as it is a very ambitious project for us and unfortunately, not all of what we want to include couldn’t be done in the time we have. However, the team are still planning on continuing our work, so keep an eye out on the GBJam page for the most recent updates.
“The game will follow a galactic star hunter seeking to find the most precious energy source in entire universe, baby stars. These baby stars are called starlettes. They are an ancient race that form the bright burning suns of our worlds. In their infancy they must bond together in an ancient ritual to become a star. Our hero must decide will he help the starlettes to become a huge atom smashing machine of incandescent plasma? or will he use their ability to burn hydrogen into helium for his own selfish needs…
We really wanted to release by the deadline, but the project proved to be too ambitious for our personal lives. We plan on releasing future versions. Currently you can explore about half of our world. In future releases we plan on including music and FX, puzzles, NPC’s and a truly epic story. If you browse the source files you can get a preview of what a lot of that will be =D
So the Midsummer Jam Week is over, and my entry (Secret of Escape) is now online, now with its own page on the site and a video trailer!
Let me say I had a great time on this jam, especially posting my progress along the way. If I get enough of a good reception, I will continue work on it to make it bigger and better!
Let me show you some other entries that I enjoyed from the games jam (click on images to go to their pages):
Hello everyone! My Midsummer Jam Week Entry, “Secret of Escape” is going very well, and you can see the update posts I’ve made on the Facebook page. Right now I’d like to take a moment to recommend you to do something.
You may recognise him as the person who composed the theme to BOOM: Fireworks Defence Unit, as well as helped source out the sound effects that would be used.
What he wants, in order for his mix to be short listed, is for his mix below to be viewed and played over 50 times. Make sure to give a good comment out and like it if you can, the more the merrier! So help a friend and musician out! And lets all hope he goes through!
